Whether the dining table chairs are wooden or metal, standard chair sizes vary according to chair models, as can be seen in the above plan;
- average back height is 85-90 cm,
- the depth of the sitting area is 40 cm,
- sitting area width 40 cm,
- height of chair base from ground 40-43 cm.
These values are slightly higher in dress-up chair models.
Standard Chair Sizes
To know how to choose a chair, it’s fair to say that chair sizes can vary greatly from design to design, especially given the wide selection of styles available. For example, the seat height on a bar stool can be very different from a standard kitchen chair. However, it is often appropriate to base the following typical chair sizes
The following values are inches and one inch is 2.54 cm.
- Seat width: 16″-20″
- Seat depth: 15″-18″
- Armrest height (full): 8”
- Seat height from ground: 18″-20″
- Armrest width: 2″
- Front to back average of armrest: 2″-3″
- Back height: 16″-20″
Features for Different Seat Types

Dining Chair Sizes: Seat height averages 18″ to 20″, seat width averages 15″ to 18″ and the average seat depth is 16″ to 18″. If using armrests, they should be 7″ to 9″ above the seat however, it must be able to fit under the table apron. The average width between the armrests on the front of the chair is about 19″.
Desk Chair: Most sizes that apply to a dining chair also apply here.
Seat Chair: It should be more comfortable than the dining chair, it should provide a reclining position. Seat height is lower (approx. 16″). Recommended armrests for easy entry/exit. And armrests should have an average height of 5″ to 8″ and a width of 2″ to 4″.
Couch/Loveseat: Seat height is from 16″ to 18″. The backrest typically rises 15″ to 18″ above the seat. The armrests usually protrude 4″ to 8″ above the seat. The total width of a love seat is approximately 56″. 60″ – 24″ per person, plus 4″ to 6″ per armrest. A full-length sofa measures approximately 90″ in overall width.
Bar Stool: In general, the seat of a bar stool should be 10″ to 15″ below the top surface of the bar. 30″ seat height is standard for the normal 42″ high bar. The backrest is typically 10″ to 14″ above the seat. Seat width is between 15″ to 18″ and seat depth is between 12″ and 16″ (16″ to 17″ diameter if seat is round). The 18″ stretcher under the seat provides a comfortable resting point for the occupant’ s feet.
Bench Stool: 24″ to 26″ seat height is standard for a standard 36″ high breakfast island/bench.Other than that, most of the dimensions that apply to the bar stool also apply here.
Office Chair: Height 16 ” to 20 “. Widt: 19 ” to 21 ” Depth : 15 ” to 19 “
